“The Smithsonian” was designed in 1979 for the 1980 Spring Catalogue of the Smithsonian Institution’s museum shops. The commission was a result of Ron Pearson’s one-person exhibition at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian in the Spring of 1978.

The neckband is hand-forged of 14K yellow gold with a cast 14K yellow gold pendant that holds a specially cut malachite.
